Spectrophotometric Determination of Corticosteroids and Its Application in Pharmaceutical Formulation
Authors
Abstract:
A simple, sensitive and economically viable spectrophotometric method for the determination of corticosteroids (predinsolone {PSL}, dexamethasone {DEX}, prednisone {PS}, betamethasone sodium phosphate {BEP} and hydrocortisone {HYD} has been developed. The method involves the oxidation of corticosteroids by iron (III) and subsequent complexation of iron (II) with potassium hexacynoferrate (III), forming bluish green colored complex having the maximum absorbance at 780 nm. The method has been applied for the determination of above-mentioned corticosteroids in pharmaceutical formulations. The common excipients do not interfere with the proposed method. A statistical comparison of these results with those of reported method shows good agreement and indicates no significant difference in the precision. The precision of the method developed is implied from the values of standard deviation which are varying from 0.03% to 1.06%. These are remarkable in comparison to the existing visible spectrophotometric studies on steroids. Marketed formulations of reported steroids have been analysed by calibration. Recovery experiments were found to be quantitative, and analysis to determine the mass per tablet was obtained with the variation of ±0.25% to 0.85% which implies the success of the method to get rid of the interference from excipients. The studies have shown that the method is fast, reproducible and accurate and can be used in the analysis of marketed formulations. The processed samples are also stable up to 2hours that minimizing the error in terms of fluctuating absorbance values.

full textSpectrophotometric determination of ketoprofen and its application in pharmaceutical analysis.
A new simple rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of ketoprofen in pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the reaction of ketoprofen with an analytical reagent--Astra Phloxin FF--at pH 8.0-10.8 and followed by the extraction of formed ion associate in toluene with spectrophotometric detection (it has an absorption maximum at 563 nm,...
full textApplication of Ion Pair Extractive Spectrophotometric Methods for the Determination of Gabapentin in Pharmaceutical Formulation
Two new simple, selective, sensitive and economical methods (A and B) have been developed for the analysis of gabapentin in pure and dosage form. The methods were based on ion-pair complexation between drug and dyes like metanil yellow and thymol blue at an optimum pH of 2.8. The colored chromogens were measured at 410 nm (λmax) for method A and 550 nm (λmax) for method B. Calibration curve was...

This paper proposes the least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) as an intelligent method applied on absorption spectra for the simultaneous determination of paracetamol (PCT), caffeine (CAF) and ibuprofen (IB) in Novafen. The signal to noise ratio (S/N) increased. Also, In the LS - SVM model, Kernel parameter (σ2) and capacity factor (C) were optimized. Excellent prediction was shown usin...
full textSpectrophotometric Determination of Tropicamide in Bulk and Pharmaceutical Formulations
A simple and sensitive extractive spectrophotometric method is described for determination of tropicamide. The method is based on the reaction of tropicamide and bromocresol green. The ion-paired colored complex was extracted with chloroform at pH 3. The extracted complex showed maximum absorbance at 423 nm. The complex was stable up to 2 days and obeyed Beer's law over the concentration r...
